Danielle thought about her invitation mulling over the consequences in her mind. If she went with the plane crash victims she was clearly choosing sides. But could she really remain neutral? After all, she reasoned to herself. the others had kidnapped her daughter and even after so many years , she desperately wanted Alex back in her arms. She stormed about her camp, gathering a rifle which she slung over her shoulder, a pistol which she shoved into her belt and handfulls of ammunition which she deposited into her pack along with any other supplies she thought she might need. Lastly, she shoved her bootknives into her boots, and with one last long around she headed down to the beach.
She caught up with them as they had already begun to head toward the others. She fell into step beside Jack. "What you are proposing is simply ludicrous. You cannot hope to take on the others and win. They are all insane, and they are smart. They can out-think you and out-gun you. You are going to start a war, Jack. I too have reason to hate the others. They took my baby. I have been forced to live without her all these years. But I did what I could to stay alive, always biding my time for the chance to get her back. How do you think I stayed alive, alone on this island?" She asked looking up at Jack. "I didn't go looking for trouble. Instead, I prepared my self. I set up my defenses, and moved about carefully. I did not go looking for trouble", she repeated.
Then she sighed. "I'm coming with you because I may be able to find Alex again, you may need someone to bury the dead bodies. Perhaps, though instead of starting a war, we should simply scope them out. Find out where they are hiding and how many of them we actually need to deal with. I don't know if this is even possible they may know we are coming already. They seem to have eyes and ears everywhere."
Danielle shrugged her shoulders and continued walking. Her life on this island had been meaningless. She lived for the hope of seeing Alex once again. Baby Alex, she sighed. Alex was no longer a baby. She was a young woman, and Danielle had missed out on her first tooth, watching her crawl and learn to walk; hearing her say, "mama", and drying her tears when she cried." How could those people have been so cruel, Danielle didn't know. She only know that with every breath in her body she would fight to get her daughter back, but she didn't want to throw her life away needlessly. She wanted to bet on the sure thing. She wasn't sure this was it.
They were just a small group, but perhaps this was to their advantage. A small group could pass through the jungle quietly without drawing as much attention as a larger one would. She wondered if Alex ever thought about her. She wondered what the others had told her if anything. She set her mind firmly on the way ahead, her senses alert for any sound out of the ordinary. This island was a dangerous place she didn't want to be caught unwares lost in her daydreams.
