"I know you can manage. It's just I would feel alot better if you'd let me carry your bags" Charlie had been so busy trying to slow Claire down, he didn't even realize they weren't on the path back to the beach. As she slowed to a stop he gave her a concerned look. "You okay?"

Claire wasn't about to let Charlie think she was any more stupid then he already did, "Er..." she looked around for a second, "Yeah," she gestured towards a direction unsure whether it was actually the correct direction, "This way I think," she lugged her bag and began to wonder in to the unknown hoping this was the right way to the beach.

"You think?" Charlie said finally looking around and realizing they had went in the totally opposite direction. "Claire, look...just let me carry your bags, and we'll head back where we came from. Then I promise I will help you move back to the beach in the morning" Charlie doubted she would go with this plan, but it was better than wandering aimlessly through the jungle.

"You promise," Claire almost scorned, "Promises can be broken," she replied without stopping. She didn't know whether Charlie would hurt her like Thomas. She knew he wasn't like that but she couldn't help feeling angry.
Then she felt it, a pain in her stomach. She was familiar with the pain from the day they crashed. As she gasped for breath she held on to a tree trunk. Oh God. Not now!

Charlie was taken back by the anger in her voice, and stopped for a second. When he realized she wasn't slowing down, he quickened his pace to keep up with her. "Claire, do you really think I would..." He stopped abruptly as she quickly grabbed hold of the nearest tree. "What's the matter!? Is it the baby!?" He asked in a state of panic.

She swallowed. This wasn't happening. Of course it wasn't, "No," She said forcing herself to stand up straight and keep moving, "I'm fine." But clearly she wasn't as she nearly tripped and fell holding on to her stomach. The pain was strong, too strong to pretend it wasn't there. She leaned against a rock and tried to breathe.

Charlie gave her a worried look as she continued walking. "Claire, I don't think your..." She was down again before he could even finish. "Claire!" He knew what was going on, even if she didn't want to admit it. "Here sit down" He said motioning to the rock she was still leaning against. "Just breath...in...out" He began to breath deeply himself. He felt like he was about to pass out. He didn't know anything about babies, and they were pretty far away from the caves.

Claire breathed in and out as Charlie told her,"I'm sorry," she said, "We should've stayed at the caves." It was the crash all over again. The fear, the pain. She wished she had just stayed with Charlie at the caves. She still didn't know what attacked her and now she was somewhere in the jungle having contractions.

"It's okay, love" Charlie had known from the start that they should have stayed at the caves, but he didn't want to get her too worked up. He grabbed her hand, squeezing it reassuringly. Charlie knew that Claire needed Jack, but there was no way she could make it all the way back to the caves. He also knew he had the tendency to become quite 'twitchy' when he became to nervous and could ramble 800 words a minute, and the heroin withdrawl probably wouldn't help much.

Claire closed her eyes hoping the pain would disappear soon. But it wasn't in any time soon about to vanish, "It hurts," she whimpered squeezing Charlie's hand back tightly. This was a mistake. At least there were people at the caves, Jack was there too. And a number of meds that could numb the pain. At the moment the memory of something attacking her was at the back of her mind. She bit her lip feeling that she could cry any minute. This was the worst place for this to happen.

Charlie wished he could take away all of her pain. He would trade places with her in a minute if there was any way to. He could carry her. No, that wouldn't work. He definately wasn't strong enough for that. "I can deliver a baby" He began before realizing he had no idea how to. "Well I've never delivered a baby before, and I really have no idea how, but I could learn. I mean it can't be to hard right, besides I saw it on the discovery channel once" And the incoherant rambling began

Claire saw Charlie's unease in the situation. But she didn't like the sound of him delivering the baby. He didn't know how and no T.V programme could make him learn. "Charlie," she said, "You don't know how." She would feel guilty if she asked him to run all the way back to get Jack. She didn't know how far away the caves were but it seemed far away. Unsure what to do she continued trying to breathe and remembered something that Jack said, "Jack warned me before that stress could cause a false labour," she pointed out hopefully, "So maybe..it will stop." she added hoping it would go away.

Charlie let out a relieved sigh. If Claire asked him to, he would deliver the baby without a second thought, or run back to the caves for Jack, or carry her back for that matter. Although he wasn't particulary looking foward to either choice. "Okay" He hoped more than anything that she was right about this. "But if you need me to do anything I will"

Claire tried to smile thankfully at him. He was being so nice she felt guilty about before. She was sure if this was a situation with Thomas he would've ran away scared. But Charlie was different. She felt another sharp pain and let out a cry, "That was a big one," she said still breathing in and out. The contractions seemed to be getting worse.

Charlie looked around worriedly for something, anything, that could help their situation. Of course there was nothing to be found in the heart of a jungle. "Do you think you could stand up? I mean maybe if you put enough weight on me, we can slowly make our way back to the caves" It was the only thing he could think of. He needed to either bring Jack to Claire. Which with Claire already being worried about something in the jungle, didn't seem likely. Or get Claire to Jack.
