Claire thought for a moment and tried to get up. She wished there was some kind of hospital here but of course that was impossible as well as stupid. She knew Charlie couldn't hold all her weight so she stood there catching her breath for a minute not moving.

"You got it?" He asked gently grabbing her shoulder. He was scared she might lose her balance. He'd wait as long as Claire needed before starting on the long walk back to the caves. He knew they wouldn't be making it quickly. She'd half to stop everytime she had a contraction, and in perfect honesty Charlie doubted they could even make it back before her water broke. Then they both would be in a situation they'd rather not be in.

Claire nodded and felt her back. It ached but she'd have to put with it. She hoped they'd make it back in time but doubted it. She really didn't want to give birth in the middle of the jungle with no doctor, no meds. This all scared her. It was terrifying enough to be having a baby already but to have it on a tropical island was horrifying.
She took a few steps forward breathing in and out, in and out as if just simple breathing would save her. She began to feel angry again. She felt like bursting in to tears. Things shouldn't have been this way. She should never have gotten on the plane.
"I'm not supposed to be here," she mumbled letting her blonde curls fall across her face.

Charlie would have thought she was joking if he hadn't heard the seriousness in her voice. "I don't think any of us think we were suppose to be here, love. It was Fate's call" He gently placed her arm around the back of his neck, and his own arm around her waist. He was trying to take as much weight off of her as he could. But they both knew he wasn't a strong guy. Now that he thought about it. Why was he so sure he could save Claire in the first place. He was always following her around like a love sick puppy, trying to watch her and take care of her, but what could he do? He wasn't the bravest, or the smartest, or the strongest. He was just Charlie.

Claire stopped a second, "No. I mean," she paused and bit her lip, "Somone promised me it would be different." She could feel her anxieties from seeing the phsycic. Had he been wrong about her fate? She thought she would be living in America by now meeting these people and waiting for her baby boy or girl to be brought in to the world. So they could take he or she away from her. Forever. She'd never see the child again. But things were different. Very different. Now it didn't seem they were going anywhere. She didn't have the choice anyway.

Charlie paused and looked at Claire curiously. "I don't think I quite understand you" If it wasn't fate, who was it? It's not like any of them planned to be in a plane crash. If they hadn't been in the crash, he'd probably be in LA right now, sleeping all day with some girl he had met the night before in some bar. Not that he was particulary proud of that fact.

She shook her head hesitantly. Should she tell Charlie her story? Would he think she was crazy? She sighed, "Well, before...." she bowed her head, "Thomas left me," she turned to Charlie," Thomas is the father," she said before continuing, "My friend, Rachel and I went to see a phsycic," she felt embarrassed, "He..freaked out or something so after he left me I went to see this physcic person again. I had decided to give the baby up," she admitted sadly, "He told me to get on a plane and go to L.A. to visit a couple willing to adopt the baby." She waited Charlie's reponse, "I bet you think I'm a horrible person and I am!" she blurted out. She didn't exactly want to give the baby away. But if Thomas wasn't with her she simply couldn't cope. Oh well, Guess it didn't matter now.

"Love, I don't think you know what a truly horrible person is" All Claire had done was try to give her baby up to a loving family. If she even knew half the things he had done, he doubted she'd ever want to look at him again. "So why was the psychic so determined to get you to LA to give up the baby. Couldn't you go somewhere closer?" He asked curiously. It was a semi joke to get her head off of things.

Claire sighed, "I don't know, he was so obsessed with getting the baby to be influenced with 'good' that maybe they were a family of saints," she replied. She looked at the ground, "Well, after this I don't know what I'll do especially if-" she paused and felt her stomach, "I think they've stopped," she said quietly.

Charlie smiled brightly. He thought he had accomplished his task of getting Claire's mind off of things, and they had made it about half way back to the caves. Although they still had quite a walk to go. "There see, I told you I would take care of you"

Claire smiled back, "Thanks Charlie," she really meant it. He was there when she needed someone there. When she needed him the most he was there to take care of her, "I just hope that 'mysterious' thing doesn't come back now."
Now that all this contractions panic was over she could start to worry about other things. Mostly the thing that attacked her. It could come back. Not just for her. For anybody.

Charlie's smile softened abit. "Don't worry...remember when I said I wouldn't let anything get to you?" He looked deeply into her eyes, hoping she believed him. "I meant it" Now that he looked around, the jungle did look a little bit on the creepy side. "They'll have to walk over my dead body to get anywhere near you or the baby" Charlie couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth. He was willing to risk his own life to save a girl he had known for a total of what? Two weeks.

Claire was touched, speechless. She didn't know what to say so she just looked at him thankful that he was here with her in her hour of need, "Well I guess we should head back and get some shut eye and hope that...thing doesn't come back," she said the night chill not helping the eeriness of the dark jungle.
Although she knew she couldn't be touched or harmed as Charlie had promised nothing could happen to her. Charlie was different to Thomas. Charlie meant what he said. Now, he did anyway and Claire could tell.

"Yeah" Charlie let out a small laugh. "And what do you say, we stay close to where Jack's at for the next few days until the baby's born. You wouldn't want to end up some place where I'm forced to deliver the baby. Not that I wouldn't, it's just I don't think you would want to be in that situation, but I can't speak for you. I'm just assuming, and you know where assuming gets you...I'm rambling again, aren't I?"

Claire laughed, "Just a little," she thought for a second, "Okay, I will stay near Jack and stay at the caves as long as you stop your rambling!" she laughed again. She was glad that the pain had stopped but they still had to return to the caves in the dark.
As they walked she began to hear some noises, "You hear that?" She didn't really pass it off as anything. This island was always making strange noises. But it was always good to be alert here.
